Tien-Yu (Aaron) Liu
Duke’s MIDS program provides solid training and abundant research opportunities. Through this program, I aim to become a data scientist, endeavoring to address real-world problems to enrich the quality of life.
What excites you about data science?
Data science is about extracting insights from data. Driven by my curiosity, I am thrilled to explore data from a variety of scientific disciplines to know more about the world that we live in. I am eager to better decision making based on the data to improve our lives.
What research area are you most interested in?
My research interest lies in transfer learning for deep learning. Inspired by the fact that humans can often adapt to new tasks with previously learned tasks, I am interested in studying how to make machines have such ability. On the other hand, I am also interested in behavioral science, since the more we know ourselves, the better deep models will be created.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Reading, swimming, and watching movies.
What is one interesting fact about you?
I love chocolate. I eat way too much chocolate.
