MIDS combine all the things I’ve learned over the years: healthcare informatics, mathematics, coding, and engineering. My goal is to become a healthcare informatician and after I saw the combination for Biomedical Informatics and the Research Triangle, I decided to choose MIDS.
What excites you about data science?
When I studied physics and telecommunications engineering I really enjoyed the mathematics. What excites me about data science is the fact that I can apply what these skills directly into data to get meaningful information that can make the difference.
What research area are you most interested in?
I’m open to many research areas within healthcare informatics, but if I have to choose one at this moment I would go for precision medicine. Outside my main study and research area, I'm interested in optionality and things that I learned when I read the Nassim Taleb's Incerto series.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy playing tennis and actually have NRTP 4.0-4.5. If I have time while traveling, I usually go to a club or gym to do a drop-in tennis class. I also play the cello and actually enjoy the vibrato and tuning it. I like driving, even if the traffic in Lima is absolutely terrible. Finally, I enjoy watching documentaries and YouTube videos.
What is one interesting fact about you?
I coded an entire security system from scratch in less than two weeks with few mistakes or bugs.
