Jiaman (Betty) Wu
The MIDS program stands out from other data science programs because of its close-knit cohort. The small cohort size enables me to form a deep bond with my classmates and receive more personalized attention from faculties. MIDS also has a flexible curriculum that gives me the freedom to tailor the program to my specific interest in data science.
What excites you about data science?
What data science excites me the most is the interdisciplinarity and applicability - sifting through the massive amount of data using statistics, math, and computer science to analyze, understand, ameliorate, and solve real-life problems.
What research area are you most interested in?
I am interested in Natural Language Processing and applying the predictive power of machine learning models in marketing.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy exercising, hiking, cooking, and baking. I am also a classically-trained amateur violinist. I try to practice the violin at least three times a week.
What is one interesting fact about you?
I collect pine cones. When I travel to a new place with pine trees, I try to find the most perfect looking pine cone and keep it as a souvenir.
