While working in a biology laboratory, I found that by far my favorite part of my projects was actually working with the data generated and telling stories with the data. I want to move into the data science field, and I think the broad approach to data science, which the MIDS program offers, is an excellent way to really understand and appreciate this field.
What excites you about data science?
I really enjoy problem-solving and learning, and the more I learn about data science, the more I really feel I have found a great field for applying those two interests.
What research area are you most interested in?
I come from a background in biology, so I do lean towards that aspect of data science. I am also very interested in learning from others how data science can be applied to their fields- you never know what you might learn!
What do you like to do in your free time?
One of the more interesting things I have been doing recently has been trying my hand at writing a novel. It has been interesting so far, and I certainly have a better appreciation for how famous authors really bring their characters to life. That, so far, has been the hardest part of writing- making interesting characters.
What is one interesting fact about you?
I lived in England for about a year when I was a teenager.
